Changing Lives One Putt at a Time

What began as an idea among a group of StFX students, has grown into a yearly tradition that makes a lasting impact on the community. On October 2nd, 2026, the third annual Putts Fore Purpose brought the community together and raised $25,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and Motionball for Special Olympics.

Leading the Pucks for Purpose team is Kaleb Boates, a fourth-year finance student and president of the society. Reflecting on the event, Boates said “Raising $25,000 at Putts Fore Purpose shows what happens when students, alumni, and local businesses rally around a shared cause. Every golfer, sponsor and volunteer who came out on October 2nd made this possible, and we are incredibly grateful.”

Founded in 2024 by Luke White, Danny Larsen, and Emma Quirin, Pucks for Purpose is a student-led society, with three key events: Putts for Purpose, Plunge for Purpose, and their biggest fundraiser yet, the charity hockey game Pucks for Purpose. The first event this year set the bar high as they raised $8,000 more than last year.

Putts for Purpose took place at the Antigonish Golf and Country Club, featuring a variety of activities throughout the course. From hydration and food holes to a hole-in-one competition, offering the chance to win a car, each hole was something new. The golfers consisted of current students, student societies, alumni, parents, and community members. Boates also recognized the efforts of fellow societies: “A special shoutout to the Women in Business Society and the Schwartz Business Society, who were among our top fundraising teams.”

Pucks for Purpose are already looking ahead, focusing on their next steps to meet their upcoming fundraising goals. “Now in its third year, Putts Fore Purpose has become one of the signature events on our calendar, and we are super excited for the year ahead. Hitting this number in a single day of golf sets the tone for what is to come. Year 4 is just getting started!”, said Boates. Putts Fore Purpose is more than a day of golf. It is an opportunity for the StFX and Antigonish community to come together, connect, and turn a day of friendly competition into meaningful support for those in need.
