The students and faculty of the Women's and Gender Studies department released the following statement to accompany the Solidarity Rally:
It's been a week since the U.S. election was decided and we have now had the opportunity to reflect upon the implications of the results for our own campus and the larger community of Antigonish. We are deeply concerned that this has afforded expressions of hatred around the country, as well as division and indifference in our own community. We stand in solidarity with those fighting to combat sexism, misogyny, racism, settler colonialism, homophobia and transphobia, ableism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and classism. We stand in solidarity with those who are continuing to protect the land and water, and those who continue to stand up against hatred, intolerance, and violence.
